Perhaps you have gone to get a straightforward Oil change just to get the mechanic strike you with a long list of repairs which cost $100s — even $1,000s?
Obviously! It happens to everybody, because stores do not earn money on oil changes and tire rotations. Their business model is built around “up sells” plus they must reach you with different services to produce a profit.
Regrettably, the majority of us are easy prey. Mechanics call the check engine light that the “idiot light” for a reason. They are aware that the average man does not understand enough to wonder exactly what services and repairs are necessary.
And therefore we all just Wind up blindly Paying to get things done if we are in need of it or not.
It is not right, but it is reality.
Every so often an advanced Technology comes along that totally disturbs a business. Uber did it for taxis. Netflix and Redbox did it for entertainment, and Airbnb did it for resorts.
I recently learned about Fixd (located in FIXDApp.com). Essentially, it’s just like a FitBit for your car. (Or just like a Store diagnostic instrument on steroids.)
Using the OBD (on-board diagnostics) Jack in your car and a program in your Smartphone, you can quickly do a “health” test on your car or truck. Brilliant!
FIXD was devised by four pupils From Georgia Tech, fueled by the frustration of getting pushed about and exploited at auto stores.
The inventors of FIXD
“Like individuals, cars get ‘sick,’ also — And the only way that they could tell us what’s wrong is via the check engine light. Our team knew that there has to be a much better way to diagnose your car’s health — and today FIXD is here to assist! I’ve a passion for creative invention, particularly when it means making a solution to some wide-reaching problem. FIXD is the best answer for people (like me!) Who do not talk ‘car.'”
How it functions
The FIXD detector works by plugging To the OBD (on-board diagnostics) interface of your car. (It is the exact same interface that mechanisms hook their code reader to.) NOTE: Each automobile manufactured in 1996 or later is needed to possess an OBD port. It is typically found below the steering wheel, under the dashboard.
The detector connects via Bluetooth to The FIXD Program in your Smartphone, in which it is simple to observe a fast scan of all of your car’s systems and any problems discovered.
